So I found this 94 Civic on CL. Has new HG, timing kit, etc on the motor. 160k miles. The concern though is the transmission. It’s the original trans and never been rebuilt or anything.
How long could you expect one of these to last given it’s been taken care of? I’m just worried about it. Of course even if the trans went out it wouldn’t be too big of a deal. I’ve replaced the clutch on the manual version of these before, can’t imagine it’d be that different replacing an auto trans.

Incoming negativity.
Claims of “selling because I’m moving” are largely fraudulent on CL.
“Car was professionally repainted.” 1) why, and 2) by a blind man?
Aftermarket exhaust prioritized ahead of PS and AC repairs?
It’s ‘93 Corolla/Camry time. Reliable, not beaten on like Hondas by assholes, and none of the stigma/risk of owning a ‘90s Honda.

Luckily these transmissions aren’t good at hidi ng problems. If it shifts well and doesn’t make noises you should be ok. Remember it’s a 2100lb car with 100hp and no torque, a person has to really abuse it to break it. A used transmission is $200-$400 and not that bad to change out. The AC could be an issue, it will more than likely need the dash taken apart.

Sorry I did not see that it was auto at first.
Stay Away.

The PS isn’t really an issue on these. I just got back from checking it out, above 15 mph you wouldn’t even think the PS was out. The A/C does work, it’s just not as cold as it should be.
It’s not like I’m 100% sold on the car, but it was close by and worth checking out.

Really, the autos weren’t good?

I just worry about you... You’re at a pace to shatter my record of disposable dubious beaters.

It’s not really a record... That’s just hyperbole and whatnot.

Yeah, it’d be nice if I could keep a car for 6 months. I’m not sure spending more money on a nicer car would really help, since it’s not like I can afford to buy something that would actually be worry free.

They survive if only the Honda ATF is used in them. I know it sounds crazy, but it does make a difference. No one used the Honda fluids. I once bought an Accord because there was jugs of it in the trunk, it was a major factor in my decision to buy the car. I am a weirdo though.

Welp, I saw the ATF the guy used and it wasn’t Honda. I believe you about the Honda fluid, the manual transmissions are like that too. Was talking to a guy who had a similar car, but manual. When I found out he put regular gear oil in it, I lost all interest. At the very least you gotta use 10W-30 with additives .
